El Rastro Market, Madrid

Madrid’s open air flea market that takes over the Lavapies district every sunday

Every Sunday and public holiday ‘El Rastro’ takes over Madrid’s Lavapies district and for decades it has thrived. Without a doubt it’s worth a visit and you can easily bag yourself a bargain - antique furniture, vintage clothes and old records are among some of the older items on sale. Take a walk through, follow your nose and let yourself be surprised by the good and even the bad on sale. To avoid the crowds, its maybe best to arrive before 11am, however don’t worry if you’re not the early bird or even wanted to grab some brunch beforehand – the market only starts to close around 3pm. Even if you’re not looking to buy anything, it’s worth a visit to see some traditional musical performances and to soak up the atmosphere.
