Historical archives of the Crown of Aragon in medieval square Plaça del Rei

The Archive of the Crown of Aragon (ACA) is a historical archive which preserves documentation from the ancient Kingdom of Aragon, as well as other Spanish patrimonial heritage documentation from between the 10th and 20th centuries. Established in 1318, it is the oldest institution of its kind in Europe, and in March 2015 it was granted the European Heritage Label.

Since 1853, the Viceroys Palace in Plaça del Rei has housed the archives. The Gothic style building has a large interior courtyard with plants, a fountain, and a particularly impressive wooden coffered ceiling above the staircase. They also have temporary exhibitions which display particular sections of the archives.
