This 12th-century Cistercian Abbey right in the heart of Brittany is closely associated with contemporary art, giving local talent a place to perform, as well as being an outlet for local produce.
Regular exhibitions display in-house artists’ own works while the individual events ‘Murmures’ and ‘Atmospheres’ work with the community to explore their own and the abbey’s identity and its immediate environs. The latter also creates a trail through six communes and gives access to otherwise off-limits areas.
A spectacular light and sound festival every July and August recounts Brittany’s long history, culminating in a 500-strong torch-lit parade and a firework display. There is a farmer’s market every Sunday from March to October.
