Dora García. Second Time Around, Exhibition, Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía, Madrid: 18 April-3 September 2018

This is archived material. It is for reference purposes only.

Interactive and multi-disciplinary exhibition project which explores the recurrent themes and the wider contextual references in the work of Dora García.

Dora García (1965) is an internationally acclaimed contemporary Spanish artist. She uses the exhibition space as a platform and works in diverse mediums including film, texts, drawings, audiovisual media and performance to connect with the spectator and enhance critical thinking.

Her work draws on a complex network of intellectual references, which range from specific literary figures such as Julio Cortázar and Oscar Masotta, two avant-garde Argentinian authors, to more general frames of reference. This exhibition, Dora García. Second Time Around, is based on Dora García’s open journey as an artist, and highlights some of the constant themes running through her work. In collaboration with musician Jan Mech, this exclusive, site-specific exhibition is a sound and object installation, which uses Franks Kafka’s 1919 short story The Cares of a Family Man as a framework through which she alludes to other fictional characters and thus increases her complex web of reference points.
