Théâtre National de Bordeaux en Aquitaine (TnBA)

Catch up on some culture at the Théâtre National de Bordeaux en Aquitaine or TnBA (National Theatre of Bordeaux in Aquitaine). It’s near Pierre Renaudel square, just a couple minutes walk from the Sainte-Croix tram stop.

TnBA was installed in an 18th-century sugar warehouse by Jean-Louis Thamin in 1986. He came to Bordeaux to create a Centre Dramatique National (National Dramatic Centre) after 10 years as an independent director and seven years of being the head of the National Dramatic Centre in Nice. Olivier Brochet designed the TnBA’s first hall, the Jean-Vauthier room (with seating for 450), which was inaugurated in 1990. Since then, the theatre has undergone major expansion and a few management changes too. Nowadays, the theatre is run by Catherine Marnas and is centered around the writings of contemporary authors such as Roland Dubillard, Serge Valletti, Bernard-Marie Koltes, Copi, and Pier Paolo Pasolini, while not forgetting classics from authors such as Brecht, Shakespeare and Chekhov. TnBA tries to invest in productions from companies based in the surrounding region of Aquitaine, as well as new and emerging artists. If all the drama makes you hungry, then check out their restaurant, "Le Tn'bar", for some tapas.
