Whether it’s for the weekly grocery shop or for a picnic by the quayside, this wonderful Sunday market by the quay in Chartrons is too tempting to miss.
The Marché des Quais is one of the most visited markets of Bordeaux and gathers more than 60 local farmers and producers. This open air market is on the left bank of the Garonne, and offers all kinds of foods from local wine, cider and artisan beer to cheese, fruits, vegetables and a lot more. Both freshly made dishes and produce are on offer, so you can find steaming hot paellas and roast chicken along with the fruit and veg. Looking at all the fresh food makes you pretty hungry, so sample the regional specialities on offer such as figs stuffed with foie gras and fresh oysters.
Although food is the main attraction, there are also vendors selling handicrafts and flowers. Really it seems a shame that the Marché des Quais is only open on Sundays.
