Admire over 150 works at the Tate Britain by Edward Burne-Jones, who is often referred to as one of the last Pre-Raphaelites. It is the first time in years that many of our favourite pieces will be united in one place. This exhibition is the perfect opportunity to immerse yourself in the fantastical, Medieval world that is Edward Burne-Jones’s art.
Take a break from reality by stepping into the dreamlike world of Edward Burne-Jones’ art, in his first solo show at the Tate since 1933. The Tate Britain is hosting over 150 of the artist’s work, including the famous huge paintings depicting the fairy-tale of Sleeping Beauty, alongside wall-sized tapestries and extraordinary drawings. It is also the first time in years that many of these beloved works will be in the same room.
Edward Burne-Jones was born in 1833, and rejected the time of the Victorian Industrial Revolution, in which he was living. Instead he nostalgically turned to the Medieval world of art, religion, and stories. He is also known for campaigning to make arts and crafts accessible to the masses, together with his friend William Morris.
Burne-Jones was not only a painter; he also created stained glass windows, jewellery and embroidery, among other things. By drawing upon this rich archive of objects the Tate has created a 3D world for you to delve into. Never has there been a better opportunity to immerse yourself in the grandeur and beauty of Burne-Jones’ Arthurian knights, classical heroes and Biblical angels.
