Discover, or rediscover, the art of renowned colour master Pierre Bonnard, at the Tate Modern’s exhibition- Pierre Bonnard: The Colour of Memory. The works on display range from 1912-47 allowing you to fully appreciate his unusual choice of colour.

Pierre Bonnard is returning to the Tate Modern 20 years after the gallery’s previous acclaimed exhibition of his art. The Tate not only hopes to introduce the new generations to Bonnard’s eccentric and unusual use of colour, but to also re-introduce those who are already acquainted with his work by presenting them with a new perspective.

Pierre Bonnard was born in 1867 and is regarded together with of Henri Matisse, one of the expert colourists. Bonnard also worked from memory and this imaginative recollection of the present moment allowed for his ingenious designs, as well as unique colour palette.

Due to the exhibition’s focus on colour, the featured works will range from 1912 until Bonnard’s death in 1947, because it is during this period that the artist was most concerned with colour. The gallery’s selection of pieces will guide you through Bonnard’s snapshots of time from just-finished meals, to stolen looks at a partner. These domestic scenes will also be displayed alongside Bonnard’s landscapes.

The Tate Modern collaborated with Ny Carlsberg Glyptotek, and Kunstforum Wien in order to put on Pierre Bonnard: The Colour of Memory.
