The V&A’s engaging exhibition, ‘Videogames: Design/Play/Disrupt’, examines the design and culture of contemporary videogames by analysing the games at the forefront of the industry.
In the first exhibition of its kind, the V&A display will explore how the minds behind contemporary videogames are innovating this form of entertainment. The museum aims to do this by focusing on a selection of pioneering games, including The Last of Us and Kentucky Route Zero. Visitors are offered an unusual insight into the gaming world by revealing the creative processes behind these videogames.
The exhibition begins by displaying original prototypes and concept art, alongside the cultural inspiration for them, such as viral online videos. Next the visitor is guided through the scope and ability games have to address real-life, topical, and often controversial, issues. The exhibition ends by letting their visitors experience the escapism of videogames by immersing themselves in the large-scale installations and interactivities.
If you have ever wondered what goes into creating a videogame then this is the exhibit for you.
