Celebrate the much loved ‘Peanuts’ cartoon by Charles M. Schulz and its legacy with Somerset House at their exhibition ‘Good Grief, Charlie Brown!’. The exhibition will display the original cherished cartoon alongside artistic interpretations of it.

Somerset House examines the long-lasting influence and power Charles M. Schulz’s cartoon has had on society. The gallery aims to achieve this by investigating Schulz’s life and work alongside contemporary art that has been inspired by ‘Peanuts’. The artists featured in the exhibition include Andy Holden, David Musgrave, Fiona Banner, among others. The displayed works are from various disciplines, as they range from sculptures, to music, to fashion, in order to create a multi-dimensional world for you to dive in to. The exhibition will also feature new art that has been especially created for the event, as well as rare original strips.

Charles M. Schulz produced 17,897 cartoon strips in his lifetime. These cartoons appeared in 2,600 newspapers, in 75 countries and in 21 languages. This means Charlie Brown and Co. became global icons long before the digital age. The ‘Peanuts’ characters of Snoopy, Charlie Brown, Linus, Lucy, Schroeder and Peppermint Patty contemplated the themes of art, faith, existentialism, race, war and feminism. This is what allowed Schulz’s cartoons and characters to cross cultural divides and to stand the test of time.
