St Nicholas Church (Lesser Town), Prague

The St. Nicholas Church in Malá Strana (the Lesser Town), just downhill from Prague Castle, is the most famous Baroque church in Prague.

The St. Nicholas Church - not to be confused with St. Nicholas’ Church in the Old Town Square - was built between 1704 and 1755. It is perhaps the most impressive example of Baroque architecture in the city, and the interior, which features sculptures by František Ignác Platzer, elaborate murals and a 4,000 pipe organ played by Mozart, stands out just as much as the outside of the building.

The church, along with being open to visitors throughout the day, also holds concerts most nights.

Along with the church itself, it is worth visiting the bell tower for a view of the city and an insight into the history of the building.
