Walk through the narrow, cobbled streets of the picturesque town of Castell’Arquato, and you will arrive at the Piazza del Municipio with the Rocca Viscontea looming over you.
Climb up the fortress’ 42-metre high keep, where you can see a patchwork of vineyards for miles around and to the tower where soldiers once searched the valley below, for enemy troops. Today you can explore the Museum of Medieval Life, a virtual recreation of the castle’s original interior. If you visit in the Autumn, there are daily shows and dinners with actors in full medieval armour.
