New Town Hall, Prague

Prague's New Town Hall, recognisable by its 70 metre Gothic tower, started construction in 1348 after Charles IV founded the New Town.

Located on the edge of Charles Square, the New Town Hall is often overlooked by tourists, who tend to focus more on the sights of the Old Town. Despite this, the New Town Hall is a major site of historical significance, being the site of many major historical events, including the first Prague Defenestration in 1419, which started off the Hussite movement.

While the view from the tower may not be as grand as the views from some of the towers in the Old Town, it is a unique view, providing a chance to see the Charles Square - Prague’s largest and greenest square - in full, as well as Prague’s major buildings from a different angle.

Visitors interested in seeing both the New Town Hall and the Old Town Hall can buy a Town Hall Pass from either site.
