Church of Our Lady of the Snows, Prague

The Church of Our Lady of the Snows in Jungmann Square has the highest vault and column altar of all Prague’s churches, and is home to the U Pinkasu beer garden.

The Church of Our Lady of the Snows is a Roman Catholic Church founded by Charles IV the day after his coronation in the New Town area that is now Jungmann Square. He planned to make it Prague’s largest church next to the Cathedral at Prague Castle, but the Hussite Wars interrupted construction and the church was never completed. Despite this, it has the highest vault of all Prague’s churches at 34 metres, and the highest column altar at 29 metres. The altar is made in the Early Baroque style, with an impressive crucifix at its peak.

The unfinished north wing of the church is now an 180 seat beer garden and restaurant. Being inside a church complex, the U Pinkasů beer garden stands out amongst Prague’s many beer gardens.
