Arechi Castle, Salerno, Campania, Italy

A castle dating back to the Lombards that overlooks the Tyrrhenian Sea and city of Salerno.

263 metres above the city is an 8th-century Byzantine fort built by Arechi II, the Duke of Benevento. Both the Normans (999 to 1139) and the Aragonese (1442 to 1494) put their own marks on the castle.

Take a walk up the hill and enjoy the spectacular views over the city and Gulf of Salerno.

Once you reach the castle, admire its collections of arms, coins, and ceramics.
