The Batliner Collection: Monet to Picasso, Exhibition, Albertina, Vienna

The Albertina welcomes the addition of the Batliner Collection to its permanent collection, with this indiscriminately diverse exhibition of Modern Art that takes you from Monet to Picasso and everywhere in-between.

The Ablertina draws upon its brand-spanking new, permanent Batliner Collection to orchestrate this Modern Art display. It allows you to appreciate Modern Art in all its diversity, variety and shinning glory. When being faced with all these contemporary masterpieces, you begin to get a sense of the  scope and magnitude of  ‘Modern Art’.

Start off with Monet’s, Degas’ and Cézanne’s indistinct, kaleidoscopic world of Impressionism and Post-Impressionism. Next stop is Germany and its intensely exaggerated and sharply outlined Expressionist art, which is best illustrated by the groups of Brücke and Der Blaue Reiter. Whilst remaining on the topic of German art, there is also a selection of New Objectivity pieces by the likes of Wacker, Sedlacek, and Hofer. As for  Austrian art, the Albertina unsurprisingly has included works of  renowned artists Kokoschka and Egger-Lienz in their display.. The exhibition does not forget Russian’s either with their blocky, geometric avant-garde art, by including works by  the likes of Goncharova, Malevich, and Chagall. To top it all off, is the piece-de-resistance: the chefs-d’oeuvres by Picasso, ranging from his early Cubist art all the way through to the Mature Period of the 1940s, via spectacular hitherto unseen prints.
