Vitkov Hill, Prague

Vitkov Hill, home to the third largest equestrian statue in the world and the Czech National Monument, overlooks the whole city of Prague and is rich with history.

Located between the districts of Karlin and Zizkov, Vitkov Hill is recognisable for the statue of Jan Žižka on horseback, also known as the National Monument, which can be seen from most places in the city. The inside of the monument is home to a museum which goes over the history of the hill and Žižka, who became a Czech national hero after fighting off three invasions.

The hill provides great views of Prague in all directions. It was chosen for a main site of the 2018 Prague Landscape Festival, with pieces of modern art being erected on the hill for the whole summer.

The hill and the National Monument are considered key locations in the establishment of the Czech state and the Czech national identity.
