Once an important site in the conflict between the Guelphs and Ghibellines in medieval Italy, today the town of Sestola is a popular ski resort.
As you walk through one of three entrance gates you are instantly transported to the remnants of this medieval fortress. In the Borgo (village), explore the old soldiers’ quarters, prisons and the castle oratory, then walk up to the Rocca (fort) to admire the Clock Tower dating back to 1572. Don’t miss the rather surprising Museum of Mechanical Musical Instruments, which shows the evolution of musical technology through 120 working instruments from through the ages.
