LIBERXINA, Pop and New Artistic Practices, Exhibition, MNAC, Barcelona: 16 November 2018-22 April 2019

This is archived material. It is for reference purposes only.

The exhibition focuses on artistic proposals created in Catalonia in the 1960s, and conmemorates the 50th anniversary of May 1968.

The 60s -and especially the later years of the decade- were marked by a social turmoil that brought with it a cultural revolt that took root in the younger generations and paved the way for a new sensibility. The revolutionary spark spread beyond national frontiers. Pop Art and New Figuration movements emerged in the USA and Europe.

“Liberxina. Pop and New Artistic Practices: 1966-1971” focuses on the arts produced in Catalonia by a new generation of artists preoccupied with new social and aesthetic issues who  explored the themes of the times, from consumer society to foreign policy, by means of different artistic practices like performance and video art.
