Anthony Hernandez, Exhibition, Fundación Mapfre, Madrid: 31 January-12 May 2019

The first retrospective exhibition of Anthony Hernandez's photographic work ever to be held in Spain will open at the Fundación Mapfre in Madrid on the 31st January 2019.

Born in Los Angeles in 1947, Anthony Hernandez is well known for his personal style in the field of photography. He first became interested in photography when he was a high school senior and, without any formal photographic education, he started snapping photos of the day to day in his neighbourhood; some of his snaps showed car parts scattered around an empty lot, which, in hindsight, can be seen as a forecast of what was to become his main theme: street portraiture, photos of marginal spaces and urban decay.

This retrospective exhibition of his work, the first ever in Spain, provides spectators with 110 images that encompass 45 years of photography, united by their beauty and their underlying commitment to contemporary social issues.
