Famed Milanese architect Stefano Boeri presents his vision of a sustainable and breathable city tackling the challenges of climate change and population growth worldwide
This exhibition at CAUE Rhône Métropole presents a real solution to today's issue of global warming and overpopulation. At a time when the world is starting to take notice of our human impact on the environment, Boeri offers a solution to a more sustainable future.
It has been estimated that 60% of the population will live in cities by 2030. Already, cities are responsible for the consumption of three-quarters of Earth's natural resources and producing 70% of carbon dioxide emissions. With more people migrating to the cities, we need to find ways to sustainably create housing and workplaces in our urban areas.
That's where Boeri's vision comes in. His most famous creation is the Bosco Verticale (Vertical Forest), twin eco-buildings in his home city of Milan. The pair stand at 111 and 76-metres tall respectively, and collectively share more than 900 trees between 8.900 square feet of outdoor terrace space. This genius combination of using height and green spaces for buildings in urban areas has earned Boeri a reputation for his ecologically-friendly outlook on the future.
The exhibition brings Boeri's creations to Lyon, in the form of architectural models, images and video; but it also displays various biodiverse urban creations from around the world, showcasing examples from Indonesia to Switzerland and everywhere in between.
