Sarah Moon, Exhibition, Musée d'Art Moderne de Paris, Paris: 18 September 2020-4 July 2021

This is archived material. It is for reference purposes only.

This exhibition is devoted to the work of Sarah Moon, an excellent fashion photographer active in France and abroad since the 1960s.

Although known as a fashion photographer, Moon’s oeuvre is not limited to this single field, and instead this exhibition will attempt to explore her photographic and cinematic experiments fluctuating between reflections and transparency, mirages and obscurity. A self taught photographer and model, her work drew attention on the male-dominated international fashion scene with her advertising campaigns, posters and magazine work. Turning to take on more personal projects, various recurring themes develop in her photographs, as part of an endless quest for the unexpected and the moment when time stands still.

Opting for a strictly non-chronological approach to this exhibition, the artist has chosen an interweaving of eras, typologies and subjects that illustrates their reciprocal porousness. The main strand – a selection of her films, mostly adapted from popular tales – provides an ongoing narrative that invites visitor interaction.
