Juliet Club, Verona

Experiencing the fairytale and becoming one of Juliet’s secretaries who responds to love letters from different countries is possible in Juliet Club

Coming to Verona and writing a love letter to Juliet became one of the rituals all tourists do here. But not a lot of them know that in this city, everyone can also become Juliet’s secretary for a short time and reply to letters from strangers in Juliet Club.

In 2010, American director Gary Winick released his movie Letters to Juliet and increased the popularity of Verona and especially the House of Juliet among tourists. The protagonist attended a mysterious Juliet Club, a place where all love letters addressed to Juliet are kept. Moreover, in the club, there were secretaries who “helped” Juliet write responses to everyone who shared their intimate stories about a broken heart and a desire to meet real love.

It can be a little difficult to believe but the Juliet club is a real functioning organization with many secretaries- volunteers who respond to thousands of love letters every day.

Making Verona known as the “city of love”, the Club started its story in the 1930s when the guardian of Juliet’s Tomb Ettore Solimani started gathering and replying to the first letters that people left there. Interestingly, the first “Juliet’s secretary” was a man. Nowadays everyone can become one of Juliet’s secretaries. All you need to do is fill in the form on the webpage https://www.julietclub.com/en/form/ for the reservation of a visit to the archive of letters. Since Juliet receives letters from all over the world, the club is more than pleased to welcome volunteers who speak different languages.

The archive of letters can be found in one of cosy Veronese yards at Via Vicolo Santa Cecilia 9.
