The Mediaeval entrance consists of a pentagonal tower and two enormous arcs that still function as gates, where cars and people on foot go through to reach the old city centre.
The monument was first mentioned in 1257, even though the first gateway was not the same, it was always used as the entrance to the city. Not the clock between the two arcs. Some say that it dates back to the 16th century, however, others say the date was the 18th century. In Spite of this disagreement, Veronese people and the government installed it in 1871.
