Taksim Square, Istanbul

In the Beyoglu district of Istanbul, Taksim Square is one of the most famous spots in the city of Istanbul with its restaurants, shops, hotels, entertainment and cultural sites. 

The monument, which was erected in the middle of a circular square, used traditional architecture with bronze figures on both sides. It is 11 metres high. Pink Trentino and green Suza marbles are used on the pedestal. One side of the monument symbolises the Republic of Turkey, and the other side symbolises the War of Independence (19 May 1919 – 24 July 1923).

Mustafa Kemal Atatürk (1881-1938) first president of the Republic of Turkey is depicted on  the north of the monument, alongside Mustafa İsmet İnönü  who served as the second president of Turkey from 11 November 1938 to 22 May 1950 and Mustafa Fevzi Çakmak  Prime Minister of Turkey from 1921 to 1922  and two Soviet generals, Kliment Yefremovic Voroşilov and Mikhail Vasilyevich Frunze. On the side  of the monument, a soldier and two female figures can be seen on the medallions. There are marble troughs under the ends of the monument.
