Parc Balnéaire du Prado, Marseille

Open all year round, the Prado Seaside Park is the biggest and best-known beach complex in Marseille.

The Parc Balnéaire du Prado (The Prado seaside park) was created in 1975 when the excavations for two new Metro lines allowed the city to reclaim land from the sea.

Today, the park, covering around 26 hectares and a coastline of almost four kilometres, has both sand and gravel beaches, which are open all year round, where you can swim, sunbathe or do different sports activities.

There are three playgrounds, a skatepark, showers, and many beach restaurants and bars. Every September the seaside park gathers kite enthusiasts from more than 10 countries for the Fête du vent (Festival of the Wind).

Don’t miss the sculpture, Le bateau ivre (The Drunken Boat) by Jean Amado,  which is  dedicated to French poet Arthur Rimbaud. When you you arrive or leave, it’s hard to overlook the replica of Michelangelo’s David, which is on the roundabout just in front of the resort. It was donated by the École des Beaux Arts de Marseille (School of Fine Arts of Marseille) in 1956.
