Palazzo Abatellis, Palermo

This 15th-century residence, now a museum, is one of the best-preserved Gothic-Catalan buildings in Western Sicily, decorated with Gothic arches, a tower and medieval gargoyles.

It wasn’t until the 1950’s after significant post-war restoration, that it was converted into a museum. The museum contains many important sculptures and paintings from the Middle Ages through to the Baroque period, many of which were recovered from churches and monasteries. The most notable work in the gallery is the Triumph of Death whose creator is still unknown.
