Park of the Monsters, Bomarzo

The Park of the Monsters is an off the beaten path adventure!

The Park of the Monsters is an off the beaten path adventure.  This horror show intertwined in an Italian garden is remarkable.  Originally commissioned in 1552 by Prince Pier Francesco Orsini, it is meant to give you a little scare.

Architect Pirro Ligorio created unusual and grotesque sculptures that will definitely make you think.  Some of the sculptures are a giant fish head, a creepy house, and giants fighting with each other.  The most stunning piece here has to be the enormous head with its mouth open wide about to scream, known as the Mouth of Hell.  Inside of the mouth is a picnic table for any daring visitors willing to sit there and have lunch.

Each monster is a surprise that might give you the chills as you roam throughout the park.  Although the park is composed of monsters and beasts, there are also historical and mythological pieces such as a Roman soldier during the reign of Hannibal, Pegasus, and Poseidon.

These bizarre creatures are truly unbelievable and astonishing.  The park of the Monsters is highly recommended during a visit to Rome!
