Milan Cathedral

Milan’s fascinating cathedral is the highlight of the city.

Milan’s fascinating cathedral is the highlight of the city.  The building was commissioned by bishop Antonio da Saluzzo in 1385.  Over the centuries the designs were glorified and improved even more through the work of many different architects and artists that contributed to this magnificent Gothic church.

The cathedral is adorned with sculptures and statues.  It happens to be the building with the most statues in the world, with a grand total of 3159.  The most notable statue is the Madonnina which is a copper statue covered in gold leaf.

The inside of the cathedral is intricate yet simple.  There are large pillars, more statues, and marble altars.  Moving forward, visitors can go to the rooftop of the cathedral for a small admission fee which offers stunning views of the city and beyond into the Alps.

The cathedral is most definitely the dominating structure in Milan!
