The Arch of Peace is a triumphal arch built in the 19th century to commemorate Napoleon’s achievements and then the victory of the western powers in the aftermath of the Council of Vienna in 1815. It's located in Sempione square.
The arch’s design was based on an arch in the Roman Forum, probably built under the principality of Ottaviano Augusto. It is made out of marble and adorned with sculptures and Corinthian columns. The four statues in front are depictions of rivers that flow through the ancient kingdom.
Above the arch are three different sculptures. The central statue is the Chariot of Peace which shows a horse and chariot. The ones on either side are Victories on Horseback which portray horses in battle.
The Arch of Peace is much appreciated in Milan. The exquisite detail and careful attention make the arch an outstanding piece.
