Marché aux Puces de Vanves, Paris

An alternative to the larger and more chaotic Saint-Ouen market, the market at the Porte de Vanves is a much more manageable proposition if you simply want to check out one of Paris’s famed flea markets for the first time.

The Marché aux Puces de Vanves boasts the right to being the only flea market in inner-city Paris. anybody who frequents the market will also tell you that the 300 or so merchants that set up shop here have better quality stuff and are much more approachable than those of the hectic, maze-like Marché de Saint-Ouen. This place is an antique-lovers haven, with shops overflowing with quality relics from the past: dishes, hats, books, postcards, vases, artwork, crafts, and more. Fall into Paris’s storied past in this market from times gone by.

The market also includes more recent stuff,  which doesn't qualify as being antiques. They can include anything from paintings to quilts to art-deco replicas and have drawn artists and collectors from all over to visit the market at Porte de Vanves over the years. Come rain or shine, as the market is open every weekend no matter the weather but get there early, as the best goods are sold first thing.
