In the Carmel Mountain, in the north of Barcelona, you will find one of the most popular attractions of the city: Park Güell. Designed by Antoni Gaudí and built between 1900 and 1914, the park owes its name to Eusebi Güell, a Catalan businessman who bought the land to build a park for the wealthy city elite.

The Park attracts millions of visitors who stroll around its green areas and visit the monumental zone, eager to see modernist elements surrounded by nature, or visit the Gaudí Museum, a small house where the Catalan architect lived.

Many of the elements the park hosts are characterised by their organic inspiration -they date back from Gaudí’s naturalist period-, though a strong religious influence can also be seen in the Calvary Memorial, originally designed to be a chapel. The monumental area of the park includes the entrance pavilions, the staircase, the dragon, the viaducts, the Hypostyle Hall -better known as the Hall of the Hundred Columns- and a terraced area where visitors can sit on undulating benches decorated with mosaics and enjoy a privileged view of the city.

DIVENTO suggests…

Not to miss the rooftops of the entrance pavilions. They could very well be the set for a Hansel and Gretel adaptation.
