Alex Ollé directs this production of Il Trovatore, Verdi's rendition of Antonio García Gutiérrez's homonimous play. The opera arrives at the Opera Bastille, Paris, in 2023.
The most popular opera of its time, acclaimed as of its premiere performance, Il Trovatore illustrates all the magic of romantic bel canto. With its endless twists and turns the opera combines all the ingredients of a cloak-and-dagger novel: castles, soldiers, pyres, outlaws... Carlo Rizzi conducts an ensemble of great voices including Yusif Eyvazov, Anna Pirozzi, Quinn Quelsey and Judit Kutasi. Àlex Ollé has chosen to set the action of Il Trovatore against the backdrop of the First World War, thus warranting the extreme situations faced by the characters.
