With Lucia di Lammermoor, Gaetano Donizetti provided romantic Italian opera with one of its emblematic works. The opera, based on a novel by Sir Walter Scott, arrives in Paris's Opera Bastille in 2023.
Based on a libretto after Walter Scott, Gaetano Donizetti wrote one of the most iconic landmarks of romantic bel canto. The composer successfully transcended the genre with his highly expressive orchestration and consummate art of vocal characterisation, both virtuoso and exceptionally dramatic. Brenda Rae plays the title role under the baton of Aziz Shokhakimov and the stage direction of Andrei Serban who uses the Salpêtrière amphitheatre to explore the themes of male oppression and madness.
