Glienicke Bridge, Potsdam

This bridge, completed in 1907, connects Potsdam with Berlin. It is painted with two shades of green indicating the border between the cities, the eastern side (Potsdam) is a brighter shade compared to the western side (Berlin).

During the Cold War, this bridge connected the socialist east and the capitalist west. It was a hotspot for eastern and western secret services and used as a place to exchange captured spies. The bridge has earned the nickname, ‘Bridge of Spies’ like the 2015 Steven Spielberg film recorded on the bridge.

Walk across this historic bridge (something people were not allowed to do 30 years ago) to admire the Havel river, Babelsberg Palace and the riverside mansions.
