One of the oldest museums in Bucharest, the Grigore Antipa Museum of Natural History was established in 1834 by the Great Count Muhalache Ghica who donated Greek, Roman and Byzantine items to the collections. It was renamed in 1933 in honour of Dr Grigore Antipa who persuaded the government to purpose-build the museum’s current building, and curated it for many years. It was recently renovated, and the most popular exhibit is the mammoth elephant skeleton in the main foyer.
