“Time takes away everything and gives everything back; everything changes. Nothing is annihilated...”

This quote by Giordano Bruno adapts very well to the troubled history of Camp de’ Fiori, one of the most beautiful squares of all of Rome, the only one without a church.

Until the 15th century, the square was literally a field of flowers; there were cultivated gardens and a rug of grass where poppies and daisies grew.

As a result, Campo de’ Fiori became a location of horse markets, as well as one of the most important places for trade, with the opening of different artisan shops, but also hotels and taverns.

Also people condemned to death and other vario corporal punishments took place here.  It was truly at Campo de’ Fiori, that the philosopher Giordano Bruno, was burned alive after being accused of heresy from the courthouse of the Saint Inquisition in the 1600s.

The statue that portrays it, dominates the crowd of people and markets in the square.  Its look is symbolically pointed towards the basilica of Saint Peter.
