One of the pearls of Notranjska Regional Park, Rakov Škocjan, is a 2,5 km long valley, famous for its natural bridges.
The Rakov Škocjan Valley has many natural bridges. The Little Natural Bridge is 20 meters long, 6 meters wide and rises 42 meters above the river Rak. Another masterpiece of nature stands on the other side of the valley: the high arch of the Big Natural Bridge. An educational trail connects the two sides of the valley.
Rakov Škocjan used to be a huge cave, hollowed out by the river. A huge valley was formed after the the ceiling collapsed. Rakov Škocjan has long been recognised as exceptional, which is why it became Slovenia’s first regional park as early as 1949. Together with Lake Cerknica and the Križna Jama cave, the Rakov Škocjan valley has been designated as a wetland of international importance.
