As one of the biggest names in both New & American Pop Art, Roy Lichtenstein was a key figure in the movement that used new creative techniques to challenges fine art and its traditional conventions in general.
Through parody, Lichtenstein criticises the society and mass media around him, producing works often compared to other artists such as Andy Warhol and Robert Indiana. He is best known for his works ‘Whaam!’ and Drowning Girl and his most expensive creation Masterpiece earned him $165 million when it was sold in January 2017. Lichtenstein’s inspiration came largely from comic strips and advertisements, and contributed to the development of the use of New Art form to tackle topics such as mass culture and consumerism.
For the first time in Spain, 76 different posters are coming to the Canal Foundation, giving visitors a chance to enjoy the comical and colourful creative world of Roy Lichtenstein.
