Grossmünster, Zurich

This Romanesque, Evangelical Protestant church in Zurich’s Old Town was built on the spot where Charlemagne discovered the graves of Zurich’s patron saints, Felix and Regula, while out horse riding. Or so legend has it.

Construction began in 1100AD and finished in 1220 but it has since been renovated several times. Don’t leave without seeing Polke’s stained glass windows, the choir windows by Giacometti and the bronze doors and cloisters. You can even climb the 187 steps of “Karlsturm” tower for a bird’s eye view of the city, lake and Alpine peaks.
