The contest and exhibition started in 1955 and presents photographs telling important stories from all over the world, as a kind of visual journalism.

The exhibition is emotional, explosive and elaborated. It was up to an independent jury, lead by the vice president of Visuals and Emmersive Experience at National Geographic Withey C. Jonnson, to select the winning pictures who honors the pictures that captured a journalistic event of importance in 2018.

John More is the name of this years winner with his photo Crying girl at the border depicting the little girl Yanela Sanchez from Honduras, while she and her mother Sandra Sanchez are taken in by US Border Officials in Texas, on the twelfth of June 2018. Donald Trump reversed this policy on 20 June, after thousands of kids had been seperated with their parents by US Officials.
