Eva Grubinger/Malady of the Infinite, Belvedere, Vienna: 22 November 2019-23 April 2020

For the first time, The Belvedere will welcome the work of internationally renowned sculptor and artist Eva Grubinger.

Since graduating from the Berlin University of Arts in 1995, Eva Grubinger has made a name for herself as a forward-thinking installation artist; a genre that uses three-dimensional works to transform your understanding of the space that you live in. Often known as ‘public art’, this genre directly asks you to think about the relationship between society and your surroundings. Grubinger typically places familiar objects and materials in an unusual or unexpected context, making you reconsider the meaning of certain ideas and feelings. In her previous exhibition ‘Steam’, for example, Grubinger used ropes, pipes and furnaces to illustrate the social effects of early 20th century industrialisation, suggesting that today we’re going to have to face up to the same type of challenge.

In her latest exhibition ‘Malady of the Infinite’, Grubinger uses her creations to guide you  through a world of class conflict and inequality, offering an intriguing interpretation of the social divisions we currently live in.
