The MAK offers visitors a journey through time in Austrian fashion from the 1980s to today. "SHOW OFF. Austrian Fashion Design" is the first major complete exhibition of contemporary fashion designed / made in Austria.
Vienna is not a classic fashion pillar, like Paris or Milan. However, this city has given birth to some exceptional talents, who enjoy great international recognition. And it is precisely to these talents, which have their origins in Austria, or work or have trained here, an exhibition is dedicated to the MAK - Museum of Applied Arts in Vienna.
Austrian Fashion Design began in the late '70s with the latest works by Rudi Gernreich, who escaped the Nazis in 1938 and took refuge in the USA, and then became one of the most influential fashion designers of the twentieth century. Visionary stylist, he was far ahead of his time, his sketches were brave and original. He is mainly known as the inventor of unisex fashion and monokini.
A total of 50 stylists on show with their characteristic models, to which are added 30 photographers, from Elfie Semotan to Andreas H. Bitesnich, who with their work offer a glimpse into the field of Austrian fashion photography. Even the most significant events and magazines are part of the exhibition.
