The Ukrainian State Museum of the Second World War, Kiev

The Socialist Realism architectural style makes an interesting contrast to the nearby Pechersk Lavra, with its golden domes which can be seen from a viewing platform. Opened by Soviet leader Leonid Brezhnev in 1981, the memorial complex commemorates the German-Soviet War.

With over 300,000 exhibits, centered on the 62-metre high Motherland Monument, the complex includes a museum, an eternal flame, plaques honouring heroic Soviet cities and an outdoor display of military planes and other equipment from various wars.
