Georges Labit Museum, Toulouse

The collector Georges Labit set off around the world in the mid 19th century searching for objects and tokens of unknown people and civilisations.

Situated in a beautiful Moorish pavilion on the peaceful verges of the Canal du Midi, this diverse collection in the Toulouse museum of Georges Labit is the only museum outside Paris to offer a panorama of three millennia of art. Pieces from India, China, Cambodia, Tibet, Nepal, Egypt and Japan are on display as well as religious objects from Tibet, mummies, sarcophagi, Indian wood carvings, Buddhas, Chinese terracotta, masks, Samurai armour and much more.

Toulouse is France's fourth biggest city. It has grown rapidly over the last 30 years to become Europe's space and aviation capital. With its jumble of old streets, lively café terraces, colourful markets and russet roofs, this ancient city is small enough to stroll about in and has masses to see at the same time.
