Pallant House Gallery, Chichester

The original Pallant House is considered to be one of the most important 18th-century townhouses in England. Built in 1712 on the site of an old malt house, it was the first of its style seen in the city. Today, the entrance hall and staircase are used as a space for contemporary installations by British and international artists, including Pablo Bronstein, Susie MacMurray, Nina Saunders, Spencer Finch and others. The gallery opened in 1982  with the donation of the Dean of Chichester Cathedral, Walter Hussey’s donation of his private collection of Modern British art. Since then, it has opened a new contemporary wing, to expand the exhibition space.
