Palatine Hill, Rome

The Palatine Hill may look like a bunch of ruins now, but during the Imperial era it was a hustling and bustling area of power and wealth.  As the legend says, the Palatine Hill was the birthplace of Romulus and Remus.  Located between the Roman Forum and Colosseum, the Palatine Hill was the place to be for the rich.  Many palaces were built here for the glitzy upper class of emperors and rulers.

Excavations have been taking place since the eighteenth century to help restore the beauty of the hill and its palaces.  Many items found on excavations are housed in the Palatine Antiquarium Museum.  Located on top of Domitian’s Palace, you can see ancient sculptures, mosaics, frescoes and much more!

The ancient ruins are truly a site to see.  The most important ones to see are the Palace of Septimius Severus, a Roman emperor from 193 to 211 AD, the House of Livia, and the stadium.  There is also the Farnese Garden to stroll through and admire nature. 

The Palatine Hill is a recommended stop on your trip to Rome!  You will walk back into time of the ancient Romans as you walk through the remaining ruins.
