Lapworth Museum of Geology, Birmingham

Named after the geologist Charles Lapworth, the museum showcases one of the UK’s most outstanding geological collections, free of charge.

It has an extensive collection of fossils, minerals and rocks, but in addition also has collections of historically important items such as the Sopwith models which were designed, in 1841, to help geologists and engineers understand the geological structures of mines, as well as John Johnston Shaw’s original seismograph which became the international standard for seismographs. The museum offers an exploration of the past 3.5 billion years of history.
