Parthenon, Athens

An ancient temple dedicated to Athena, the patron goddess of Athens. it is the largest building on the Acropolis.

This enormous temple took 15-years to build (447-438 BCE) and is a masterpiece of Doric architecture.

At the height of classical Athens, it was the home of a 12-foot high statue of Athena made of gold ivory, considered one of the wonders of the ancient world. Unfortunately, this statue has disappeared but you can see many others of the Parthenon’s sculptures on display in the Acropolis Museum.
