Roman Agora, Athens

The hub of Athenian everyday life during Roman rule, today you have the ruins of a variety of ancient buildings.

Like the Ancient Agora of Athens, this was a gathering point and a market for Athenian citizens while Athens was under Roman control. Julius Caesar and Emperor Augustus paid for its construction.

Walk through the Gate of Athena Archgetis and stroll around the ruins of many ancient buildings. Don’t miss the sundial and water-powered clock in the House of Winds, or the Library of Hadrian.
